The washboard has a long history as a rhythm instrument in blues music. But what Greyhound's Washboard Band makes out of it, is unparalleled in the world of music.
Washboard Wolf, probably Europe's only professional washboardist, created a rhythm machine from a washboard, a more than a hundred-years-old bass drum and different misused household goods that he plays with thimbles and whisks. He gets some unusual sounds out of this rhythm machine that a „normal“ drummer doesn't even dare think about. This might be very entertaining in itself, but paired with Greyhound George's electric guitar and Andy Grünert's fat sounding harmonica it creates the irresistible groove of an extraordinary blues band.
Starting with traditional blues from Mississippi and Chicago, Greyhound's Washboard Band has continuously developed their own musical style without loosing sight of the roots of blues music.
Hookeresque boogie meets melodic ballads, Chicago shuffles meet stomping funky beats, original songs meet well-known classics. All this is presented on stage with great dynamics. Modern blues from a parallel universe might sound like this. In Januar 2018 the band made it to the finals of the „International Blues Challenge“ in Memphis/Tennessee, the world's biggest blues competition. For a German band, this is very unusual. In the following years, the band played many gigs all over Europe.
Greyhound's Washboard Band was founded in 2015 by Waschbrett Wolf and Greyhound George as a duo. Andy Grünert joined them in 2017 with his harmonica to complete the trio. An album on acoustic instruments was released in October 2017. It is titled „Street Corner Blues“ and was nominated for a „German Blues Award“.
Now, in the year 2024, the band is working on a new album which will be released on the „Timezone“ label. This album will represent the extraordinary and unique sound of Greyhound's Washboard Band. The journey in search of the magical blue note goes on!
The first album is out now!
